People always wonder what I can/will do with my Soil Science degree. I always respond with, I can do anything! The real world applications and experiences of this program will take me around the world to study and consult on soil and environmental issues.
The Earth Science program allows me to study everything from climate to mountain formations to ocean currents. The flexibility offers preparation for any type of profession I want to pursue as long as it’s saving the world!
The Earth Science program at Cal Poly is a well rounded program and can lead to endless jobs within the field of sustainability. Our department gives us a lot of opportunities to fulfill interesting careers that will keep us helping the environment while being outdoors!
The Earth and Soils Science department professors are very challenging, amazingly interesting, adventurous (many field trips), thoughtful, friendly, and will open your mind and conscious awareness. My educational journey at Cal Poly has gratifyingly left me confident and passionate about my future. I plan to pursue a career and life dedicated to soil conservation working with agriculture in quest to improve the quality of American and global food systems.
I have always had a strong interest in Geology and the processes of the Earth. I am confident that the Earth Science department and faculty will do everything they can to assist me in reaching my academic goals and will guide me thorough my exploration of the Earth and the better understanding of its components and how they function as a system.
Working with the Earth and Soil Sciences Department has truly been a privilege. No matter what field of earth science I choose to pursue I feel confident that my time at Cal Poly has given me the background knowledge and confidence I need to tackle anything that may come my way in a career. But truly this is in great part to the ERSC/SS department, with all of the great professors and the guidance they have given me in the short time that I was here. As excited as I am to graduate, I am at the same time a little sad to leave.
I chose Earth Sciences because I was interested in all aspects of science. I am glad I chose this major because it has given me an education that I will not only be able to take with me into the work force, but one that I can apply to my every day life. The professors and students here have had a profound impact on my academic success.
